Hello - and Happy Monday.
Here’s 3 from me… all about how to spread positivity across school.
1.
Help children and staff understand why being positive is in their best interests. Positive people live longer, have fewer sick days, have more energy, are more productive and are better problem solvers. Who wouldn't want to be more positive?
2.
Challenge negativity. There is a classic saying: 'the standard you walk past is the standard you accept.' The same is true for negativity. When others are negative around you, and you do nothing, you are giving your acceptance. Create a culture where positivity is franchised. Empower staff members to be able to challenge negative behaviour. This is not the same as being judgmental - because there are times when people have legitimate concerns and worries - but this is not the same as being negative.
3.
Give psychological safety. This is where staff understand they can make mistakes and won't be a victim within a blame culture. It's important to note mistakes and negligence are not the same thing. When blame is frequently assigned, people don't have the psychological safety to do the best in their role because they are either consciously or unconsciously worried about doing the wrong thing and being blamed.
