Hello - and Happy Tuesday,
Did you know… you’re like Superman?
First of all, let’s ditch the usual superhero comparisons and come at it from a different direction. The vast majority of people don’t know what Superman’s most powerful ability is. The usual guesses include being faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and being able to leap over tall buildings in a single bound.
But these guesses are all wrong.
Superman’s most powerful trait is his ability to inspire hope in others. He stands out because of his attitude. He is a beacon of light that the world looks towards for solace, peace and inspiration. Superman himself says he stands for “Truth, justice and the American way”. It might sound cheesy, but at least he knows what he stands for and what he stands against.
Another thing, the S he proudly wears on his chest does not stand for Superman. My definitive version of Superman is Christopher Reeve in the classic 1978 movie. It wasn’t until Superman revealed himself on Earth that Lois Lane saw the S symbol and named him Superman. His real name is Kal-El. The symbol on his chest is his family’s crest. In Kryptonian, the language of his home world, the S symbol means ‘hope’. His father, Jor-El, sums up the rationale for sending a baby Superman to Earth perfectly:
“They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you, my only son.”
Superman stands out as the greatest superhero in the world because of his attitude. This is what sets him apart from his contemporaries. You can be like Superman and stand out because of your attitude. When you have a great attitude, the children in your care will look to you as a beacon of hope and inspiration. Superman makes other people feel amazing. You can be like Superman.
Your positive emotions can leak out of you and into the people around you.
In the words of Wayne Dyer: “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”
If we do this, it means the people around you need you to be positive so your emotions leak out of you and into them.
The aim of my work is to share ideas, strategies and concepts which will encourage you to look at things differently so you can begin to have a different experience of life. When you change how you look at the world, it will make you feel differently. When you feel differently, it can help you to live a better life.
I want to empower you to develop some of the traits of the best teacher, LSA, or member of school staff in the world. But the idea behind my work is bigger than your job role. It is about you and the type of person you have the potential to become.
I don’t want you to just survive. I want you to thrive.

Until next time.
